About

The City of Wyoming draws its name from the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania, from which a group of its first settlers came in 1855. Wyoming was incorporated as a village in 1902 and became a statutory city in 1974. Construction of the I-35 freeway propelled Wyoming into a boom period in the late 1960's and 70's. It became a bedroom community, the majority of whose citizens commuted to the Twin Cites to work; The city has shown impressive growth. The estimated 1995 population of the city was 2,669. Estimated population in 2004 was 3,500. This is based on the State Demographer's estimate.

A City Council of five members, one of whom is the mayor, governs Wyoming. All council members have equal voting rights; the mayor chairs the meetings and also serves as representative and leader of the community The Mayor is elected every two years, the other council members serve staggered four-year terms. Elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. The Council meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the Municipal Building.

The City of Wyoming's administrator is Craig Mattson. The city is made up of 14 full-time employees as well as some part-time and seasonal workers.
